Let’s get started!
Creating an OptimoRoute account
Every account starts with a 30 day free trial. To create an OptimoRoute account:
- Input your company name
- Enter your business email
- Choose a strong password
Now that you are logged in, continue with the "Getting Started Wizard" which will help you set up your account.
Setting up your account
The "Getting Started Wizard" will appear as soon as you create your account. It will walk you through the steps to setting up your account.
Create a depot
First, it asks you to locate your depot location. Your depot is used as the default start and end location for your drivers.
To create your depot:
- Enter the address in the search bar
- Select the correct address from the drop down
- Check the location on the map, and if necessary adjust it by dragging and dropping the marker.
Choose your business type
The next step will be to choose your business type. This helps us understand the unique challenges your business has and is useful when offering you additional assistance and best practices.
Setting up drivers
Next, create your drivers. For every driver, one vehicle is automatically created.
Number of drivers
Choose the number of drivers you want to test the software with.
Working hours
Working hours are a planning constraint that makes sure routes are planned within your drivers' work schedule. This can be updated later if needed.
Breaks
Add a break that will be automatically added to your drivers' work day when planning.
Default vehicle type
OptimoRoute has two vehicle types:
- Standard: This is best for cars and vans that don't need to consider any weight and height restrictions for roads, bridges, and tunnels.
-
Commercial: This is best for heavy, commercial vehicles that are over certain dimensions:
- Height of 12'6" (3.8 m)
- Width of 8'3" (2.5 m)
- Length of 33 ft (10 m)
- Weight of 33,000 lbs (15 metric tonnes)
If you aren't sure, you can always set up vehicle profiles later on.

|
Tip: Make sure you have the correct number of drivers and their working hours set, so you can get testing right away. However, you can always update this information later. |
Start planning
After you finish the setup wizard, OptimoRoute will add sample orders automatically. You can use them to test route planning right away. If you want to try OptimoRoute with your own orders, learn how to add and import orders.
