Set duration on orders

Order duration is the time needed to complete an order. This field is optional, but adding it can improve the accuracy of planned route times. This article explains how to set order duration and use it in reports.

What is order duration?

Order duration is the time it takes to complete an order.

Dispatchers can set a planned duration to help OptimoRoute create more accurate route times. Once the route is live, OptimoRoute records the actual duration based on the time the driver takes to complete the order in the OptimoRoute Driver app.

Setting the default order duration

You can set a default order duration for your account. OptimoRoute applies this duration to new orders by default.

To do this: 

1. Go to Administration→Orders from the top menu
2. Choose the "Orders" section
3. Change the "Default duration"
4. Click "Save"

Now OptimoRoute will apply this default duration to any new orders.

Setting planned order duration

You can set the duration for individual orders by:

• Editing the order
• Importing the duration
• Using the API

Editing order duration

To set the duration for an order:

1. Go to "Plan & Optimize"
2. Select the order or orders you want to edit
3. Click "Edit order"
4. Enter the duration in minutes in the "Duration" field. You can use decimals for shorter intervals.
5. Click "Save"

When editing one order, the "Duration" field appears below "Location" in "Basic Info".

Bulk editing order duration

When editing multiple orders, the "Duration" field appears below "Assign to" in "Basic Info".

Importing order duration

To import order durations:

1. Add a duration column to your spreadsheet
2. Go to "Plan & Optimize"
3. Click "Import Orders"
4. Upload your spreadsheet
5. Map the duration column to the "Duration" field
6. Continue through the import process

Viewing actual order duration

OptimoRoute records the actual duration when a driver starts and completes an order in the OptimoRoute Driver App.

You can view actual order duration in the "Live" tab and the "Analytics" dashboard.
