What is commercial truck navigation?
This feature is a built-in GPS navigation system in the OptimoRoute Driver App. By using OptimoRoute commercial truck navigation, your drivers will be able to follow GPS instructions that will avoid road restrictions like height and weight limitations.
This navigation is an extension of the commercial truck route optimization capabilities found in OptimoRoute. Learn more about how to set up commercial truck routing for your vehicles.
What you need to use OptimoRoute Navigation
- Drivers need the OptimoRoute Driver app version 2.21.1 or above on their mobile devices
- Drivers need to be assigned commercial truck routes
Setting GPS navigation for drivers
While your drivers can select the OptimoRoute navigation from their driver app settings, admins can also configure OptimoRoute Navigation centrally from the web app via the administration settings.
To set the GPS navigation tool for drivers:
- Go to Administration→Mobile Apps
- In the left menu, choose “Activation & status”
- Choose the drivers you want to set navigation for
- Click “Set navigation”
- Select “OptimoRoute Navigation”
- Click “Save”
Now your drivers’ mobile apps will open the OptimoRoute navigation by default when they have commercial truck routes assigned. Drivers can always change the navigation used within the driver app settings.
When the navigation option appears in italics, for example "OptimoRoute Navigation", this means the setting has not yet been applied because either the driver is not online yet or the driver app version is too old. |
You can also set navigation for drivers individually by clicking directly on the “Navigation” column and choosing the preferred navigation from the dropdown. If the driver changes their default navigation settings from their app, this view will be updated to reflect the driver’s choice.
If a driver does not have commercial truck routes, the setting in this screen will reset into the value which is selected in the driver app and the OptimoRoute Navigation will not be selectable. |
Setting up navigation for new driver app installations
Admins can also set up the initial navigation system for any new driver app installations they activate by managing the driver app configuration.
To define the initial navigation setting:
- Go to Administration→Settings
- Go to Driver app→Configuration
- Scroll to find the "Navigation" section
- Choose the "Initial navigation setting"
- Click "Save"
This will now make it so that the OptimoRoute Navigation or other navigation is the selected navigation for any newly installed driver apps.
