Assigning drivers to orders
Drivers can be assigned to orders as a hard constraint. This means the order can only be serviced by that driver, and if the driver cannot complete it, the order will not be given to anyone else. Only one driver can be assigned to an order at a time.
This can be useful for when a driver is requested at a particular location due to customer preference or familiarity.
There are a few ways to assign orders to drivers:
- Editing an individual order
- Editing orders in bulk
- Import

If you want to make it possible for multiple drivers to be assigned particular orders or stops, where the system can choose one of the drivers based on skills or other requirements, try using "Driver Skills". |
Adding or editing an order
You can also directly edit an order to assign a driver. This can also be done when adding the order. To do this:
- Go to the "Plan and Optimize" tab
- Select the order you want to edit or add a new order
- Click "Edit Order" or double click on the order
- In the "Assigned to:" field, choose a driver from the dropdown
- Click "Save"
This makes sure that when you plan your routes, the driver will be given this order.

Tip: Use the map tools to select orders in a specific area or region. |
Bulk editing orders
You can also select a set of orders and assign them to a driver in bulk.
- Go to the "Plan and Optimize" tab
- Select the orders you want to give to the driver
- Click "Edit Order" or double click on the order
- In the "Assigned to:" field, choose a driver from the dropdown
- Click "Save"
This makes sure that when you plan your routes, the driver will be given these orders.
Importing driver assignment
You can import your driver assignment in bulk. In order to import driver assignment, you will need to define a serial number identifier for the driver and include a "Assigned Driver" column in the spreadsheet. Follow the steps below.
Define the serial number
The serial number is a unique identifier for the driver and must be defined in order to import order assignment. Whatever you use to identify the driver internally can go in this space. Driver name, initials, or employee ID are all options for this field.
To define the serial number:
- Go to Administration→Settings→Drivers
- Choose the driver you want to edit
- Click "Edit Drivers" or double click on the driver to open the editing window
- Add a unique identifier for the driver in the "Serial Number" field
- Click "Save"
Set up your spreadsheet and import
Next you will need to set up your spreadsheet and import. To do this:
- Add a column for "Assigned Driver" in your spreadsheet
- Use the driver serial number in the column to assign drivers to orders. Remember that only one driver can be assigned to an order at at time
- Go to the "Plan and Optimize" tab
- Click "Import Orders"
- Upload your spreadsheet
- Map the column to the "Assigned Driver" field
- Import the spreadsheet
This will automatically link your driver to the order specified, so that when you plan your routes, the driver will get that order.
