What is Geofencing Auto-Complete?
Geofencing Auto-Complete allows for touchless stop completion for drivers using the OptimoRoute Driver App. Geofencing creates a virtual boundary around a stop to define its service area. When a driver enters this area, the system automatically detects their arrival. Once they exit, the stop is marked as completed, with no manual input needed by drivers.
Geofencing can serve as a fail-safe for making sure orders are marked as completed during the drivers' routes. For high-volume or high-density stops, this also eliminates the tedious time spent tapping “Complete” on the driver app. It just works in the background, so drivers can focus on doing their jobs and dispatchers can stay informed about their activity on the road.
Enabling and disabling geofencing in dispatcher app
| Geofencing requires the 2.23.11 or later version of the OptimoRoute Driver app. |
In order for drivers to use geofencing, admins should enable the option in the driver app configuration area. To do this:
- Go to Administration→Settings→Driver app
- Choose “Configuration” from the left menu
- In the “Geofencing” section, use the checkbox to enable or disable service auto start/complete
- Click "Save"
There is an extra option here to allow drivers to enable or disable geofencing in their driver apps. This option gives more control to your drivers if they want to use geofencing or not.
Using geofencing in the driver app
Once geofencing is enabled, the OptimoRoute Driver app will automatically start and complete services in the background.
Service start
Service on an order will begin when the driver app detects that you are within the geofenced area for that order. The driver app will then alert you with a count-down timer.
This timer allows you to manually intervene if for any reason you do not want the service for that order to begin at that time.
| The order will be identified by the Order ID or the stop number in the countdown timer. |
Service complete and proof of delivery
Service on an order will complete when the driver app detects that you have left the geofenced area for that order. The driver app will then also alert you with a count-down timer that the order is completing.
If you are using proof of delivery, the form will automatically appear if any of the proof of delivery (POD) fields are required.
If POD fields are not required, the form will not appear. However, drivers can still access POD from the order itself in their to-do list or in the completed list on their driver app.
Grouped orders at a location
Geofencing also works with multiple orders at a single location. All the orders will complete automatically at the same time.
Disabling geofencing in driver app
When the dispatcher enables this option for drivers geofencing, geofencing will be automatically turned on for all drivers by default. However, drivers will also have the ability to disable geofencing if they wish.
- Open the OptimoRoute Driver app on your mobile phone
- Click “Settings” in the bottom right corner of the app
- Find the section called “Geofencing”
- Tap the switch to enable or disable “Auto start/complete orders”
Changes will be automatically saved and applied.
