What is overnight routing?
Overnight routing lets you set a planning day that continues past midnight. This is useful for operations with overnight shifts, where routes may start on one calendar day and finish the next.
By default, a planning day runs from 12:00 AM to 12:00 AM. If your operations continue past midnight, you can change when the planning day starts with overnight routing settings.
This lets OptimoRoute keep overnight routes within the same planning day, even when they start on one calendar day and end on the next.
For example, if your planning day runs from 5:00 AM Monday to 2:00 AM Tuesday, orders scheduled at 1:00 AM Wednesday are still part of Tuesday’s planning day.
Configuring overnight routing
To set up overnight routing:
- Go to "Administration→Settings"
- Select "Route & Planning→Overnight" from the left menu
- Move the slider to set the start of your planning day.
- Click "Save"
For example, you can see below that the route planning day is from 6:00AM Tuesday to 6:00AM Wednesday. This means any orders scheduled during this period are part of Tuesday’s operations.
An order scheduled for 4:00 AM Wednesday, for example, is still included in Tuesday’s planning day.
