OptimoRoute offers multiple ways to manually add orders to routes. This gives you more control over which route each order is assigned to. This article explains the different ways to manually schedule orders to routes.

Drag and drop
You can use drag and drop to adjust routes in the timeline or on the map.
Drag and drop lets you move orders between routes, add orders to routes, place stops in a specific spot, find the best place for a stop, or remove stops from a route. This can be done in the timeline tab or directly on the map itself.
Assign order to stop number
You can also directly assign an order to a stop number on a driver's route.
To manually schedule this way:
- Go to the "Plan and Optimize" tab
- Double click on the order you want to edit and this will bring up the Edit order window.
- In "Basic Info" find the section called, "Manual scheduling"
- Choose the driver and stop number you want to schedule the order to
- Click "Save"
When using this method, remember:
- If the order is already on a route, the order will be removed from the old route and insert it to the new route at the specified stop number.
- The route plan will not automatically re-optimize when moving stops around manually.
- Route constraints (like time windows) will not be enforced during manual changes.
Re-optimizing manually scheduled stops
You can re-plan orders without changing the assigned drivers or vehicles for orders that are already scheduled. OptimoRoute will only update the stop order within existing routes and insert any unplanned orders that fit.
To do this:
- Go to "Plan and Optimize".
- Click "Plan Routes"
- At the top of the planning settings window, go to "Allowed changes"
- Choose "Keep drivers for planned orders, fit in new orders".
This option will rearrange your existing routes to its optimal state. You can also lock routes to exclude them from planning when you have finalized them.

If manual route changes break route constraints or limits,
re-planning may remove some orders from the route. For example,
this can happen if a route is longer than the driver’s allowed work
time. Any removed orders will need to be added back to a route manually. |
Locking routes
Locking a driver’s route lets you optimize new or changed orders while keeping that driver’s current route the same. To lock a route, click on the lock symbol next to the driver on the driver panel to lock a specific driver.
