Best fit is one of the editing methods when performing drag and drop planning. This feature can be found in the timeline and on the map. In this article, we will go deeper into how this works.

Planning with best fit
The best fit feature allows you to move orders around using drag and drop while leveraging the OptimoRoute routing algorithm to help you place orders optimally in an existing route. Best fit will respect any constraints you have.
To best fit stops:
- Go to the "Plan and Optimize" tab
- Select an order or set of orders from either the map or timeline
- Drag them to the driver's name on the timeline or to a place on the route on the map
- Release your mouse
A black dot will appear to let you know where you will be moving the orders to, along with a tool tip that will tell you that you will be performing a best fit action. For example, "Best fit into a route."
Breaking constraints
When using best fit, it could be that you cannot add all the orders you want to a driver or route. This usually happens because of broken constraints.
Since best fit uses the OptimoRoute routing algorithm, it will respect the following contraints when optimizing:
- Time Windows
- Work Time
- Load (Capacities)
- Skills
- Vehicle Features
- Service Areas
- Max Distance
- Check in times
- Priority
- Business hours
When a constraint is broken, you will see a small warning with a message letting you know which constraint was broken and why the order was not moved to the desired route or stop.
This message will also appear on the map:
Tip: If you want to ignore these constraints, you can do so by dragging and dropping the order to a specific location to "Insert" the order. |
