Routing profiles allow you to set up characteristics for vehicles that will be taken into account when creating optimized routes. This article will explain how to create routing profiles and how to apply them to a vehicle.

Default routing profile
The default routing profile is used for all routing unless a specific routing profile is assigned to a vehicle and a driver. By default, this profile has the following constraints:
- Vehicle type is a car, therefore there are no commercial truck restrictions.
- Vehicles can use all roads, meaning vehicles do not avoid tolls or ferries.
- Drivers can approach locations without restrictions, meaning they do not need to avoid U-turns or crossing the street.
- Service is performed at the location, and not as close to the road as possible
You can edit the default routing profile, and if that is the only profile in use, the settings within it will be applied as constraints to the whole fleet - all drivers and vehicles.
To edit the default routing profile:
- Go to Administration→Settings
- Click “Route & Planning” from the left menu
- Select “Routing Profiles”
- Choose the options you want for a particular profile (see explanations below)
- Click "Save"
Creating routing profiles
You can create unlimited routing profiles that can applied to vehicles and are used as constraints when routing that particular vehicle.
To create a routing profile:
- Go to Administration→Settings
- Click “Route & Planning” from the left menu
- Select “Routing Profiles”
- Click “Add profile” to create a new profile
-
Give the profile a name
-
Choose the options you want for a particular profile (see explanations below)
-
Click "Save"
Routing profile options
Vehicle type
Vehicle type allows you to choose the type of vehicle for routing. This allows you to set up commercial truck routing profiles or hazardous material transport vehicles that will avoid certain roads.
This feature is only available on Custom Truck plans. Contact support for more information. |
- Car - Cars are those that can access all roads that allow motor vehicles of an average car size without restrictions
- Commercial (Truck) - Commercial trucks are those with the following dimensions: height of 12.5ft (3.8m), width of 8.2ft (2.5m), length of 33ft (10.1m), and weight of 33,000lbs (15t). The routing algorithm will take into account specific road restrictions applicable to these types of vehicles when sequencing orders.
- Hazardous material - This option can used to denote the transportation of hazardous materials. Roads where hazardous materials cannot be transported will be avoided.
Tolls and ferries
-
Use all roads - Allows the vehicle to be routed to all roads to find the most optimized route
-
Avoid tolls - Sequences orders to prevent the use of toll roads when optimizing routes for this vehicles, but some free ferries may be included
-
Avoid ferries - Sequences orders to prevent the use of ferry crossings when optimizing routes for this vehicles, but other types of tolls are allowed
Drivers approach locations
- Without restrictions - Does not take into consideration U-turns or crossing the street when routing
- Avoid U-turns and crossing the street - Sequences orders to prevent U-turns or crossing the street to reach a destination
Service location
- Service at location - Uses the exact location pin to calculate routing sequence, time, and distance. Locations pins are generally located in the center of the property.
- Roadside service - Uses nearest point to the road (for example a drive way entrance) to calculate routing sequence, time, and distance. This is especially useful for waste management companies or deliveries/services that need to go to residential suburban areas.
Editing existing routing profiles
You can create unlimited routing profiles that can applied to vehicles and are used as constraints when routing that particular vehicle.
To create a routing profile:
- Go to Administration→Settings
- Click “Route & Planning” from the left menu
- Select “Routing Profiles
- Choose the profile you want to edit
- Make your changes
- Click "Save"
Now any vehicles with this routing profile, will have the updated settings.
Assigning profiles to vehicles
The default routing profile will be automatically applied to all vehicles that haven’t had a specific routing profile assigned to them. If you have more than one routing profile created, you can assign different ones to vehicles.
To assign profiles to vehicles:
- Go to Administration→Vehicles
- Select vehicle(s) you want to edit
- Click “Edit vehicles”
- Go to the “Routing Profiles” section of the editor
- Choose the profile you want to apply
- Click “Save"
