To share routes with your drivers, you can download GPS files that are compatible with Garmin, TomTom, and Navigon devices. In this article, you’ll learn how to download these files and how to set them up on a Garmin device.

Downloading GPS files
To download routes for use with a GPS device such as Garmin, TomTom, or Navigon:
- Go to “Plan and Optimize”
- Click “Share Routes”
- Select “Download to GPS”
- Choose the file format you want to download:
.gpx,.itn, or.freshroute
OptimoRoute downloads a ZIP file containing the route files.
Check your device documentation or contact the manufacturer to confirm that your device supports file uploads and multi-stop routes.
Uploading .gpx files to Garmin devices
After you export a .gpx file from OptimoRoute, you can copy it to a compatible Garmin device.
Note: The exact steps may vary by Garmin model.
Copy the .gpx file to your Garmin device
- Connect your Garmin device to your computer.
- Find the
.gpxfile you downloaded from OptimoRoute and copy it. - Open the Garmin device or memory card on your computer.
- Paste the
.gpxfile into theGPXfolder. - Disconnect the Garmin device from your computer.
Import routes on nuvi 465, 500, 700, 705, 800, 805, 1400, 1690, 5000, and zumo 220, 400, 500, 600, or 605
- On the Garmin device, go to “Tools → My Data” or “Tools → User Data”
- Select “Import Routes”
- Go to “Tools → Routes”
- Select the route you want to use
Import routes on nuvi 2400, 2405, 2407, 2408, 2505, 2507, 2508, 2707, 2708, 3400, 3500, 3507, 3508, 3700, dezl 560, dezl 760, RV 760, and zumo 350
- On the Garmin device, go to “Tools → Trip Planner” or “Apps → Trip Planner”
- Wait for the device to import the route automatically.
Note: The device may not show a message while the import is in progress. Importing routes can take several minutes.
- After the import is complete, open “Trip Planner”
- Find the transferred routes under “Unscheduled Trips”
Import routes on nuvi 295W
- On the Garmin device, go to “Where To? → Routes.”
- Select the menu button with three horizontal lines
- Select “Import Routes”
- After the import is complete, go to “Where To? → Routes”
- Select the route you want to use
